Panchang Today

Tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana & vara β€” computed from real planetary positions

A light, entertainment-grade panchang (6:00 AM IST snapshot). For muhurta, consult a traditional panchang.

Panchang Today

Today's tithi, nakshatra, yoga, karana and vara, computed from actual Sun and Moon positions rather than copied from a table. Free, no sign-up, updated daily.

What each of the five limbs is

Tithi is the lunar day, one of thirty, marked off every 12Β° that the Moon pulls ahead of the Sun β€” fifteen in the waxing Shukla half and fifteen in the waning Krishna half. Nakshatra is the 13Β°20β€² segment the Moon occupies, one of twenty-seven. Yoga adds the two sidereal longitudes together and divides that by the same 13Β°20β€². Karana is half a tithi, and vara is simply the weekday.

Calculated at 6 a.m. IST

All five are read at a single instant β€” 6 a.m. Indian Standard Time on the day shown β€” because tithi and nakshatra change during the day and a panchang has to name one. Positions come from a low-precision model with the Lahiri ayanamsa, so a printed panchang from your own tradition may show a transition at a slightly different hour. This is a light daily almanac for reference, not a muhurta calculation.
