Your Sun sign follows the date alone, which is why everyone already knows theirs. The Moon moves through a whole sign in roughly two and a half days, so it needs real calculation: the page works out the Moon's ecliptic longitude for your birth moment and reads off the 30° segment it falls in.
The lunar model used here is accurate to around two degrees. That is comfortably inside a sign for most birthdays, but if the Moon was close to a boundary when you were born, entering your birth time makes a real difference — and without a time the sign may be the neighbouring one. This is a light chart made for curiosity, not a professionally cast natal chart.
